Have you tried thogal?
Basically thogal is squinting into the periphery of the sun (don't hurt your eyes) from one of three postures, which are demonstrated in the attachment below. You do not need to use all three postures, just one that works for you.
I corresponded to you a while back with some background information, about staring into the sky which is a preliminary. Staring into the sun and moon is thogal proper.
P.S. Make sure you squint heavily when staring into the sun. Also you might want to have shade overhead to avoid general overheating.
