View Full Version : Can you hear that frequency?

I think it's always there... But it's louder im some nights especially when I'm trying to meditate and/or sleep...
Right now it's driving me bananas...
It starts from there... then the tapping (could be my electronics that turned off, is it the sound of my ps3 cooling off?) ... then there's the tap on my leg (i don't know why my blanket would just do that, but i guess i could buy that) then the pressure change that pops my window (but there wasn't any doors or windows that moved in the house so if it isn't the air then it's the temperature difference of within the house and outside the house...)
The above happened last week while I was trying to meditate. I cleaned and clensed my room and it's been good since then, no weirdness.
Except... What's with that frequency?! a constant frequency in my ears or in my area and I can't think of an explanation for.
Might you know what that is? How to stop it? Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance...

The frequency is inside your ears, and it is electrical noise.
When you hear sounds, the ears bring in soundwaves which make your eardrums vibrate, and the movement from the eardrum gets converted to an electric signal in the ears, via teeny-tiny hairs that are electrically charged- the movement causes changes in the electrical polarity in the hairs, and that becomes a signal that gets transmitted to your brain, which turns the signal into 'sound', what we call noise/music/sound.
When there is a lot of silence, the hairs just sit there, not moving, polarized, probably causing noise that is kind of the same as what the white noise generators make- just random molecules making random electrical noise. Sometimes you hear pattern variations over the static-because the only vibrations come from inside your body; the heart pumping, the blood flowing, the organs working, and that is the pattern that overrides the staticky noise, probably modulating it in some way.

So just turn on the TV and try to ignore it? Why isn't my thalamus filtering out this constant useless noise?

I have a constant extremely fine high pitched frequency or whine or ringing I'd call it - that is pretty close to 11000 hz - Not exact, but close. Its loudest when theres no other noise interference <-- sort of a duh statement there I guess. I wonder if everyone experiences this or something like it?

Yes, I have it too. I have had it all my Life so I can not tell how loud it is....and I have difficulty to express it how it sounds, but I can tell that when I get "images" of something it get´s louder to Catch my attention, and when I focus on what is "comming" it dim´s and I focus on the message so to speak.
When I was just a Child, everyone could see on my face and Eyes wide open to understand something happened to me, and they could not get my attention because the sound did hold a grip of my attention, and I could not hear anything but the message, and my parents and relatives get worried and afraid, and this has caused them to see me as sick.
Today I can have this parall to the Daily Life, and I have noticed that the sound gets dimmed when I am on the message freequnecy and I can do other things at the same time...it is a practis of my whole Life and I am 58 soon.

I wouldn't meditate with the TV. It's mostly stupid or negative or both. If you really want to use some sort of sound to meditate, there are loads of music options. You want something without words, and you should probably look for something specifically designed for meditation. I don't even like classical music for meditation, because a lot of it is pretty lively and I get into actually listening to it. Meditation music (or music for Reiki) is deliberately on the bland side, while being pleasant to listen to.
Why isn't my thalamus filtering out this constant useless noise?
Your ears are almost unbelievably sensitive. When there is no louder or more important sound to listen to, your brain starts listening to the sound of the blood rushing in your ears and other minute noises. Studies with people in soundproof rooms have shown that in the absence of other noise, people can actually hear air circulating (as in, the molecules) and the sound of dust particles moving around and all kinds of "microscopic" sound. The thing where you "tune out" some sounds is a matter of focus, and if there's nothing more significant to focus on, your brain starts to focus on smaller and smaller sounds, and some of them are pretty weird.

Because you're paying attention to it. If you find something else to occupy your mind, it will be filtered out.

I've always had that. I can remember being very young (four, maybe) and lying in bed listening to the ringing in my ears. I get it quite severely sometimes, in fact, and in my case, it's classified as tinnitus. Most of the time, I'm not bothered by it, and I find listening to it useful in some situations. (In some situations, it can make it so that I am literally unable to understand someone's speech, though. Not so useful then. ;))

I never thought of that. Might come in handy.

From what I learned- when the ears can't hear a certain frequency well- because it's too high/low pitched (there could be loads of reasons, like hearing too much loud music with or without headphones, but a person's hearing deteriorates with age- it usually begins to deteriorate in the third decade of life but nowadays with young people it begins earlier because of loud music and such). So what the brain does- it makes you hear a certain "ringing" sound in your ears, instead- to make up for the sound that your ears can't pick up.
And BTW- I can hear it too sometimes, in my right ear mostly :-D

The thing you said about sound-proof room studies is very interesting. I totally get focusing on other things and even M.B.A. will help which i just tried totally helps (it even mutes it when I'm really focused, and I just forget about it, which is nice) Although, this particular night when I started this thread, I was in frequency pergatory. Even with the TV connected to my head phones on loud, I couldn't stop hearing it. I'm sure stress (I had 2 midterms the next day) and the fact that I was admitting it was driving me crazy made it even louder and hard to ignore. I will try M.B.A. or N.E.W. in the future to counteract it but I just want to know, when one is exhausted and stressed (difficulty meditating), what are said one's options?

If you're really bothered by it, see a doctor. There are treatments for tinnitus that might help. I understand there's something with white noise, but I haven't looked into it much. There are also a few health conditions that have ringing ears/tinnitus as a symptom, so that's worth checking out, as well.

It's possible that that particular night there was some atmospheric disturbance going on. When there are abrupt atmospheric pressure changes the ears can ring- mine do, I immediately know when the pressure changes- my own early thunderstorm warning system. Or at the onset of a cold too, when sinuses plug up and the pressures change inside the ears.

I hear it also. The Kauai Monastery's writings say that the high pitched "eeee" sound is caused by the Ida and pineda nerve currents.
(I may have then spelled wrong) Each is at a different frequency. You should be able to hear each and the combined tones. (Of course this is not including any physical damage). Sometimes it is Very Loud.
Also, when you hear a tone, they say beings are known by their tone. But; I think this is when you hear a tone suddenly. This is not the same as the steady "eee" sound.
If it is not too bothersome,, concentrating on it can produce the trance state.
I'm only stating what I've read and experienced.

"Eeee" that's a perfect description. Sometimes over the background eeeee I get a sudden, louder, "incoming" eeee of a slightly different tone. I joke with my husband that I'm receiving transmissions from the ether lol. But it makes sense to me also that I have hearing -damage ( glorious results of a misspent youth).

I get that, too, sometimes. The "key change" thing. :)
I'm pretty sure mine is ear damage, too. When I was a kid, we used to go to the shooting range and I never wore ear protection (nobody did, it was a long time ago and people were stupider or something), and then I used to blast my music in earphones back in the days before earphones were regulated to try to protect your ears. And I went to a few rock concerts in the Eighties without ear protection (I learned my lesson after the first one and went with earplugs after that and found I could hear everything perfectly well but not have my ears ring literally for days afterward). But, alas, the damage is done...
Thankfully, I'm actually not that bothered by it most of the time.

The sound I hear is intense yet gentle....and I have nothing to compare the sound with what we have here on Earth....but it does invade me totally....and it has several purposes...even to fill me with love and Comfort....but also to allert my senses....

At times, when its not very loud, it is comforting. Sometimes I just listen to it; to "see" what happens, kind of like exploring it.
If I can recall correctly, I think Robert Monroe mentions it, but I can't recall where I've read it.

¡Hi, CFT..!
Taking into account http://www.astraldynamics.com.au/showthread.php?893-Hearing-Tones-Ears-Ringing-amp-related-matters (see root [first post] concepts) and the other phenomenon (subject of present thread) not explained at by quoted link, ¿how do you discriminates one set of sounds from the another being both as similar as they seems to be? ¿may be through energy control actions?
Main stream science interpretation explains such auditory phenomenon as "blood flux normal murmur"
My best regards,
Ángel

If you listen, just listen, you can hear the two pitches. Kind of like a left and right stereo.

Not in my case, Angel. You could only hear it in the pool, and I swim in the pool all the time, and it's not there. Whatever it was, it was lower than the blood rush sound you hear from your own circulation, and it only lasted that day.
