12/09/2011:
I went to bed at midnight with the intention of using the deferred method to enter the phase. I woke up at 1.20am feeling a little muzzy and went to the loo. At 1.40am, I went back to bed and experienced mild vibrations. I strained the brain in order to intensify them and it worked. Soon, my head was crackling and a change of temperature was distinguished. I started to slide towards the end of the bed, where my feet were, and, in the process, was ejected out.
The manifest ambience of the phase was gloomy and spectral, but, as soon as I started the hands friction technique and puffed a hot stream of air over them, visual perception improved tenfold. An altered version of my abode could be seen in great luminosity. My bedroom was larger than it should have been and a blue-green hue dominated the hyper-reality of the phase. I turned to the bed and could see bodies under the covers. I felt the opaque and cold surfaces of walls and the ceiling as I flew about the house.
On my way to a very different living room, and now walking instead of flying, I realised that the memory of my plan of action escaped me. I almost panicked about a possible premature exit because of this, but then, I decided to rub my feet on the laminate flooring until at least one of the planned steps came back to me.
Soon, it dawned on me that, while me and my wife watched Big Brother before bedtime, I had talked to her about how interesting it would be to visit the reality show’s set and see what kind of information I might get from the contestants. When me and Stacey watch the show, we try to suss out their psychology, and now, in the phase, I had a desired destination.
I translocated by shutting my eyes, as I ran along the corridor, and, imagining that I was already at the BB house simultaneously. The result was exactly what was expected when I opened my eyes. The brightly lit environment made me feel like I was in the sitting room of the BB house, and I could see the worktop where contestants cook their meals. I saw stools and red chairs scattered over a cream carpeted floor and mirrored walls appeared to make the room more spatious.
It was nighttime, and, by the outdoor swimming pool, I spotted a few contestants engaged in conversation. I glided towards them while rubbing my hands together in order to maintain the phase. I recognised Pamela Anderson, Jay, Tashie and Alex amid strangers. Everyone was chatting away and sipping at their drinks - some standing, some sitting - and nobody took any notice of me. Then, I discovered that Tara Reid was also there, which didn’t make any sense because she had been evicted from the house in the last show. Moreover, Will Ferrell (the actor) was there, too, and he was never a BB contestant. I found it interesting that my mind was composing a construct that consisted of unrelated waking life elements I had recently been exposed to. After all, I had been watching the end of the film “Land of The Lost”, starring Will Ferrell, before BB.
In the garden, there were white CCTV camera mounts that felt like plastic upon touch. I also felt that the place was turning into something like a wider version of the back garden of my house. The changing process must have been very gradual and without my awareness, unless, of course, of course, it was all taking place rapidly every time I turned my back.
I turned my attention to Alex, who was sitting by herself nearby, and had the crazy idea of possessing her body in order to announce my presence and freak everyone out. One might ask, why do this when the environment is the surreality of the phase and not the real world. Well, it crossed my mind at the time that, by doing so, a telepathic link could be established between me and the real Alex (theoretically speaking, of course). I wondered if that could possibly cause her or any of the BB contestants to dream about a stranger among them called Arlindo Batista, in the least. At the most extreme, and this would certainly be freaky, the real Alex in the show would start to deliriously spout nonsense, in the eyes of everyone, about being somebody else.
In retrospect, what occurred when I decided to perform such feat was probably the product of desire. I entered her body and wore her like a glove. Her head was like a darkish helmet that I could manipulate like a puppet. There was a metal grid within the mouth, through which I sounded my surprisingly robotic voice: “I’m Arlindo Batista speaking through this body. I am currently out-of-body and making my presence known to you.” There were gasps of astonishment in the garden. Next, I shed Alex’s skin and mingled with a crowd of strangers nearby in order to examine their faces.
By a large structure resembling a Japanese temple, which appeared out of nowhere, I encountered Gerald, my best man, drinking from a beer bottle. Stacey was also there and socialising with the group. I was getting the impression that my subconscious was gradually populating that mental stage with acquaintances. Scanning the surroundings revealed to me that I was now in a wider version of my back garden where my house was a temple and there were no traces of the BB house.
As I disengaged from the characters and acted solely as an observer, I realised there was a party going on. In the phase momentum, I was amazed at how stable the environment was and didn’t see the need to perform techniques that would maintain the state. The song “Ace of Spades” by the heavy metal band Motorhead could be heard clearly, and, because I like it, I started singing and dancing with the crowd. I was having a ball and gradually losing my lucidity.
There was a karaoke competition and I was singing a song with a stranger, but, in what was now a non-lucid vivid dream, I knew him. The song was also strange but I knew part of the lyrics, or singing it came naturally. I remember thinking in the dream that I couldn’t figure out what the song was called, so, I looked at the screen that displayed the lyrics. I sang a verse and was laughed at by my karaoke partner. When I looked back at the same verse, it was different and matched what he was singing. This happened a few times and he would tell me to look at the verses again to see where I went wrong. I began to feel tricked and was getting annoyed with the dream buffoon and his mannerism. In the background, Gerald’s nephew Chris was laughing his head off.
I returned to wakefulness and my head sizzled. Feeling invigorated, I was pleased with my phase experience and the dream that followed - despite the annoying karaoke incident. I got up, reached for my journal, and made some notes. It was 3.15am. My notes began to form an essay and eventually I was satisfied with all that I had recorded. I used the toilet and was indecisive about another attempt at entering the phase. I was in bed by 4.15am and getting ready for another metaphysical adventure. Stacey fidgeted in bed and kept breaking my concentration. I was finding it hard to relax. I fell asleep in the end and had a vague dream.
In this dream, I became lucid by looking at my hands and asking myself if I was dreaming - a pattern of behaviour that I initiated in the waking state on the previous day. I had started to concentrate on the tip of my index but abandoned this reality check when I realised that I was in a strange house. In my lucid state, I remembered going back to bed and falling asleep. The phase was already deep and revealed an old house mostly made of wood.
Again, the kitchen blended with a sitting room and I examined a sink with two taps. I partially recalled the dream from which the phase was entered, and knew that my brother-in-law Nuno and two men were in another room similar to a kitchen with many worktops but no sink. I travelled through a corridor to reach them and informed them that I was dreaming and that they were not real. Their heads twitched sideways at once, in a blurry mist, as though I had caused a glitch in the dream matrix.
Subsequently, they stared at me and proceeded to protest against my claim. Nuno became irate and moved closer to shout in my face. Believing myself to have superior strength, I delivered a blow to his chest which sent him flying through the air until he crashed into the wall behind him and cracked it. I asked the other two what they thought of my superhuman strength and decided to levitate near the ceiling to prove my point. The men just stared at me in their motionless stance.
It occurred to me that there was no point in explaining anything to seemingly sentient dream characters who, even if they represented fragments of my personality, knew less than me. I shot upwards, tearing a hole in the ceiling, passing through a dark loft, and smashing through the roof. I had felt the tiles being blown apart, as though they were solid objects. As I hovered over the shattered roof, I beheld a breathtaking scenery.
Over green hills and a forest, a gigantic nebula dominated a clear night sky with its pink and purple radiance. Dark sporadic smears provided a fitting contrast. The sight was unbelievable. In the distance, there was a cottage in isolation and I was immediately drawn to it. As I glided over its roof, I came across a massive river that reflected the surreal sky with crystal clarity. The nebula’s reflection was even more attractive and I plunged into the waters to travel in space. A sudden déj♥ vu was experienced.
I felt that I had already been there as a child, but, that world wasn’t quite the same. Indeed, as a young boy, I was fascinated with stars and planets. My mother bought me a telescope in my early teens and I’ve been interested in astronomy ever since. In the phase, I wondered if I was revisiting a previously imagined world.
I shifted towards the brightest red star as its glow was inviting and I desired to see an alien world. Suddenly, I was on a beach and an unusually bright Milky Way traversed the sky. The white sand seemed to give off its own light, and, opposite to the seaside, silhouette shapes protruding from a dark land mass shimmered. The landscape eventually faded as I regained awareness of a cold physical body lying in bed. I reached for my journal, made some notes, and laid back down for a catnap before taking my son to school.
